raskols
"Port Moresby, the blighted Papua New Guinean capital, is among the world’s most dangerous places, lorded over by curiously garbed outlaws armed with pistols made of bored-out iron pipes. In 2004, the photographer Stephen Dupont infiltrated this dystopian underworld and convinced its inhabitants to pose with their weapons. Newly collected in “Raskols” (powerHouse Books, $30), his unmoralizing portraits are both visually striking and emotionally disturbing: some raskols are only children, others bear horrific scars."
